1. Muara Port

The Muara Port lies in the Brunei-Muara District, approximately 28 kilometers northeast of the capital city of Bandar Seri Begawan. It is located on the South China Sea and goes down as the only deep-sea and all-weather port in Brunei.

This port processes containerized cargo, general imports such as consumer goods, agricultural products, and exports of industrial products. It is also conducive for roll-on/roll-off cargo ship operations as well as transshipment in Southeast Asia.

Muara Port is the largest and busiest port in the country, making it a key maritime entry point into the country. It is the link between Brunei and large regional shipping hubs such as Singapore, Hong Kong, and Chinese ports.

3. Lumut Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal

The Lumut LNG Terminal is in Lumut, found in the district of Belait on the west coast of Brunei. It is located close to offshore natural gas reserves, giving it direct access to the South China Sea.

The terminal mainly deals with the export of liquid natural gas (LNG) and high-tech equipment to process and cool natural gas down to a liquid state. It also handles large shipments of propane and butane.

Being one of Brunei’s premier energy export ports, the Lumut LNG Terminal supplies LNG to major importers such as Japan, South Korea, and other parts of Asia. Its presence in foreign energy markets strengthens the international applicability of Brunei in the natural gas industry.

4. Kuala Belait Port

Kaula Belait Port is located close to the Belait River, giving it easy access to the sea.

This port primarily serves offshore oil and gas businesses, equipment, and industrial supplies to the whole of Brunei. It is also used to import small goods used for domestic consumption.

Its significance is that it is a specialist support hub for the offshore oil exploration and production in the state of Brunei. It may not be as big as other commercial ports, but it is essential in supporting the oil industry, which is the mainstay of Brunei’s economy. The proximity to Malaysia also enhances the cross-border trade.

5. Brunei Shell Petroleum Supply Base (BSP)

This Supply Base is found close to Seria, in the Belait District. It is located near the key oil fields and offshore oil drilling sites.

The facilities at this port are designed primarily for petroleum-based goods, offshore drilling machines, chemicals, and assorted sea supplies. It aids the logistics used in the production of both offshore and onshore oil.
