· Port of Busan

Founded in 1876, this port currently the biggest in the country first began as a small trading port serving mainly as a minor trading port supporting trade in Korea, China, and Japan. Its strategic position played a major role in the Korean War allowing it to expand further.

· Port of Incheon

Established as an international port in 1883, this port has played a vital role in promoting the Free Economic Zone. The free economic zone was established in 2003 and has been a major contributor to the growth experienced in the port.
Moreover, the port is currently under the management of the Incheon Port Authority which was founded in 2005.
The port features state-of-the-art infrastructure including a container terminal that is designed to accommodate large vessels with capacities of up to 12,000 TEU. It also has an inner port that can handle a variety of cargo including automobiles and general cargo and has a berthing capacity for approximately 48 vessels.
· Port of Gwangyang

Established in 1986, this port which is located in south Jeolla province serves a key role as a maritime center. It primarily functions as a cargo port with specialized facilities that allow it to handle various types of cargo and is among the busiest ports in the country.
Besides, the port mainly deals with the importation of coal and steel products which plays a vital role in the country’s economy.
The port is continuously evolving and expanding as more money is invested into it in a bid to increase its capacity. Also, the existing infrastructure is in the process of being modernized so that the port can accommodate bigger vessels as well as allow it to handle a variety of cargo.
· Port of Ulsan

Founded in 1963, this port which is located in Uslan this port is another major port best recognized for its extensive industrial and bulk liquid handling capabilities. This port handles a wide variety of products from various industries including automotive manufacturing, shipbuilding, and petrochemicals.
It is the third-largest port in the country and as of 2023, it has had a throughput of 192.55 million tons of cargo which constitutes 12.4% of the country’s total cargo traffic. This port serves as a vital logistics hub supporting various industries.
· Port of Donghae

Located in Gangwon province, was established to help increase the capacity of the Muhko port which is located on the northern side. The port has built its reputation based on its ability to accommodate bulk cargo, especially coal and cement.
Additionally, the port’s annual cargo throughput is 23 million tonnes with over 5.2 million tonnes of coal being processed.
This port significantly supports the local economy because of its ties to GS Donghae Electric Power Co., which relies on the port to supply coal. The port has different piers that include;

Minor ports
· Port of Gamcheon
Located in Busan this port plays a key role in supporting the main port of Busan by taking on some of its traffic. It therefore helps in promoting regional shipping as well as logistics.
· Port of Dadaepo
Established in 1971 this port located in Dadae-dong, serves primarily as a fishing port and plays a significant role in supporting the region’s maritime activities. Over the years it has experienced significant improvements that have allowed it to support operations such as processing and fishing.
· Port of Sokcho
Officially opened in 1997 this port which is located in Gangwon-do Province, serves primarily as a gateway to the Sea of Japan. It has over the years been developed as a tourist hub as well as a coastal fisheries center.
· Port of Samcheok
Established in 1976, this port which is situated in Samcheok City, Gangwon-do has helped expand the region’s commerce by serving as a public trading port. It was initially designed for aiding in the transportation of cement which was mined and processed in its proximity.
· Port of Uiwang (Inland Port)
Located 25 kilometers south of Seoul, this inland port plays an essential role in facilitating the transportation of containers through road and rail. It functions as a logistics center supporting trade in the Seoul Metropolitan Area
· Port of Janghang
Established in 1938 this port positioned in Janghang-eup, Seocheon-gun serves mainly as a fishing port in addition to facilitating cargo operations. It features a berthing length of 330 meters and can support vessels up to 20,000 tons.
· Port of Yeosu
Found in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, this port primarily functions as a fishing port. It also handles passenger traffic in addition to roll-on/roll-off cargo. The port is situated close to protected waters which eases the anchorage.
· Port of Mukho
Positioned in Donghae City, Gangwon Province, this port which was established in 1937 has served in various capacities since its inception. It first began as a harbor for transporting shipping coal and iron ore but currently serves as a cargo handling facility.
· Port of Gunsan
This port plays a key role in facilitating the importation and exportation of goods in the region of Gunsan, North Jeolla Province where it is located. The port is situated close to a Kunsan Air Base which allows it to also serve as a security and logistic hub.
· Port of Jeju
Established in 2012 this port which is located in Jeju functions as a key center for the exportation of products as well as cruise ships. The port not only supports trade in the region it also serves as a tourism hub which greatly contributes to the region’s economy
